DEI on Neflix India (LGBTQ rights) – The Supreme Court considers whether to legalize same-sex marriage (has already decriminalized sex between men)… WOW, India, going that far? Things need to be explicit and concrete.

Though the government has opposed same-sex marriage, arguing that it would weaken families and wasn’t a judicial issue, a recent Pew Research Center poll of 24 countries found that more than half of Indians favor allowing it, a higher proportion than in South Korea and Indonesia, but also Brazil, South Africa and Greece.

Last year, one of Bollywood’s most famous actresses, Madhuri Dixit, played a lesbian who comes out to her children in the film Maja Ma. The movie received mixed reviews from critics, but a positive response from many audience members. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have also invested heavily in promoting shows like Class and Made in Heaven, which grapple with queer relationships that also cut across religion and caste.
